Friday Cad News Issue 01

I will be posting a new section on the LMHT CAD Manual. In this weekly newsletter I will be answering frequently asked questions, documenting CAD procedures and discussing tips and tricks. If you have questions on something or have a topic to discuss let me know.

Frequently asked questions

"How do I publish a set of drawings?"

CAD Manager:
I have posted this procedure in the How-To section of the manual. There is a link to it. How-To publish a set of drawings

Drafting

This week I would like to document the proper way leaders are attached to text in a drawing. I have seen this done several different ways. The follow image shows the approved way to use leaders with mtext.

I realize this is a small issue. I want to incourage us all to continue to work hard to all be on the same page as far as drafting practices go. It will give coherence to our drawings when we all follow a standard. I will continue to document the approved LMHT standards in the coming weeks.

Tips and Tricks

If you've ever been working in a drawing plagued with overlapping lines or with objects that appear to be continuous but are in fact multiple connecting segments then you need the power of the OVERKILL Express Tool. This command is a master clean-up tool that will have your drawing neat and tidy in no time!

OVERKILL removes objects whose geometry is redundant. For example:

  • Duplicate copies of objects are deleted.
  • An arc drawn directly over a portion of a circle so that the arc cannot be seen is deleted.
  • Two lines drawn at the same angle so that they partially overlap are combined to form a single line.
  • Duplicate line and/or arc segments within polylines are removed.
You have a variety of other controls you can place on the cleanup such as whether or not objects on two different layers should be considered duplicate and a fuzz factor that allows you to delete objects that are close but not spot on. The larger the fuzz factor the further away the duplicate objects can be and still be removed.

Give this command a try.

See you next week!
